The Antique Barbed Wire Society is committed to collecting, preserving, exhibiting and interpreting the historical heritage of barbed wire and related items. Although perhaps not as active is in the early 1970's, the hobby still has much to offer.

The hobby supports the activities of several state organizations, mostly located in the plains or western states. Members receive six issues of "The Barbed Wire Collector" magazine each year and several barbed wire shows are on the 2004 calendar.

The society has a continuing dedication to the education and history of barbed wire. Much of their research is printed in their publication and also stored in several location, including the Kansas Barbed Wire and Devil's Rope museums.
