NAC Acquired by Americana Resources, Inc; Association of Collecting Clubs Announced
GAITHERSBURG, MD--The National Association of Collectors has been acquired by Americana Resources, Inc, Gaithersburg, Maryland, an antiques and collectibles corporation with Larry Krug and Rick Moses as the principal partners.
The goal of the National Association of Collectors (NAC) is to identify and address those needs and concerns that are common to all collectors. NAC provides individual collectors with a broad range of information and resources.
Some of the current NAC program areas include collection management, appraisal information, security, displaying techniques, conservation/preservation/restoration, dispersal & estate planning, development of research skills & utilizing new technologies, and networking & educational opportunities.
There is an NAC insurance program and NAC members are offered reduced prices on a broad range of products and services provided through the NAC Partnership Program. An NAC Advisory Board will be named in upcoming months.
As the official website of NAC for the past four years, Collectors.Org is the place to get collecting information. Information features on Collectors.Org include a variety of calendars and directories, news and current issues affecting collectors and the full line of services for NAC.
Krug explains, "When Collectors.Org was launched by Americana Resources in January 1998, its stated purpose was that: "This site is primarily targeted at collector organizations or clubs and their members, with a broader secondary audience being `all' collectors."
Collectors.Org soon became the designated website of the National Association of Collectors which was founded in 1996 by Harry L. Rinker, president of Rinker Enterprises, Inc, Emmaus, Pennsylvania and Jim Tucker, founder and director of Antique & Collectible Associations, Davidson, North Carolina which operates the Antiques & Collectibles Dealer Association, Antiques & Collectibles Show Promoters Association and the National Association of Antique Malls. The stated goal of NAC originally was to identify and address those needs and concerns that are common to all collectors.
"By acquiring NAC, Americana Resources continues its strong dedication to the collecting community and plans on moving the association to the forefront in service to collectors," Krug adds.
Anyone interested in joining NAC can find more information on the Collectors.Org website. Membership dues is $5/year payable to: NAC, 18222 Flower Hill Way #299, Gaithersburg, MD 20879. Be sure to include your full name and address and e-mail address if you have one.
Association of Collecting Clubs Launched
Complimenting NAC, Americana Resources is also announcing the formation of the Association of Collecting Clubs. Through the Collectors.Org website, Americana Resources has been closely involved with assisting dozens of collecting clubs for the past four years. By starting the Association of Collecting Clubs (ACC) this effort will be strengthened and expanded.
Initially, ACC has four major objectives. The first primary objective is to support collectors and the National Association of Collectors.
Second, to strengthen and assist existing collecting clubs, societies and associations, and to help those collectors desiring to establish new clubs. Krug states, "Over the past four years in working closely with the leadership of collecting clubs we have found some strong patterns. We doubt if any club has a problem which is unique. Most clubs, regardless of the collecting area they support, have some of the same problems and challenges, and some of the same opportunities, as other collecting clubs. ACC will assist club leadership in addressing many of these areas together."
Krug adds, "The third major objective of ACC ties to the second goal, that of helping to build club coalitions and networking with allied collecting groups to address the `sameness' that many clubs have regarding their challenges and their opportunities. Some of these areas include: club leadership models, membership recruitment and club promotion, reproductions, appraisals, club conventions, club management & finances, and laws & legal ramifications for clubs.
"The fourth goal is really an umbrella over the other three, but goes further. ACC will become a `vehicle' for helping collecting clubs to serve a major partnering role in the antiques and collectibles industry."
The membership of any club or society joining ACC will automatically be members of NAC as well, having all of the privileges of NAC individual members.
Both NAC and ACC will use Collectors.Org as their combined official website. The website is currently undergoing major renovation and enhancements which will be presented in several stages during upcoming months.
In support of collecting clubs, Collectors.Org distributes a weekly Collecting Clubs eNews electronic newsletter which goes to thousands of leaders of collecting clubs. A free Collecting Clubs News Service to publications and other news outlets within the antiques & collectibles industry is also distributed.
