ANA Programs for Young Numismatists

The American Numismatic Association has a variety of programs for young collectors including a weekly e-mail newsletter which updates YN projects, upcoming events and activities and exchange of hobby ideas and stories. All past newsletters are available on the site.
The Young Collector. APF Youth

A youth website of the Australian Philatelic Federation offers young stamp collectors information and guidance.
Junior Philatelists of America

The JPA is a group run by and for young stamp collectors, age 17 and under. Adult supporting members may also join. Their website offers information on JPA's activities and how to get started in stamp collecting. They list their affiliated chapters and have a Message Forum and a Stamp Swap Program.
APS Just for Kids

The American Philatelic Society promotes stamp collecting to youth in a number of ways. Some of their activities include staffing youth areas at shows, and providing resources & ideas to leaders of youth clubs. This segment of their website promotes these endeavors.

The British Philatelic Trust offers considerable support to help young collectors and to assist those working to encourage youth philately.
North American Vexillological Association

"Kids Who Collect" is a section of the Country Collectibles web page operated by Harris Publications. This is a great kid-produced page which features the collections of young collectors and offers a tremendous Kids Penpals Page with literally hundreds of entries!

A well-presented stamp collecting site includes sections on ideas submitted by teachers for using stamps in the classroom, a philatelic glossary and other informational highlights.
Kids Ark, Fossils & Fossil Collecting

This site, generating from the United Kingdom, deals with fossil collecting as a "brilliant hobby" for kids. The site gives many pointers on how to go about collecting and how to maintain your collection. It stresses that a primary reason why fossil collecting is such a cool hobby is because it's free - you get fossils all over the place and you don't have to pay for them - and you are collecting things that are millions of years old.
American Political Items Collectors

The APIC website features two sections directed at the young collector - Serving Youth and Serving Teens & Collegiates. Both section offer information on what young collectors can do in the political collecting hobby and include stories from young APIC members about their collections. Both sections are slated to be greatly expanded during the next year.

This site has two sections of interest relating to young people. There is an OPDAG's Kid Gallery and also a section "Advice for Beginning Paper Doll Collectors."
Train Collectors Association

Visit TCA's Kids Club. This association really makes an effort to make young kids feel welcome and to show that they are an integral part of the association. Note the excellent TCA Kids Club logo.
Smithsonian Institution

The Smithsonian Kids Collecting website is a great site for building the case for collecting being an important part of a kid's life - no matter what they collect - and the reasons why. The site also offers collectors in various hobby areas talking directly to young people. The site requires the Flast and Real Player plug-ins available when you go to the site.

The U.S. Mint's H.I.P. program, History in Your Pocket (H.I.P.) Pocket Change site offers some great information designed to help educators share innovative ways they've found to use coins in the classroom and other teaching methods.

National Model Railroad Association

The NMRA offers a Junior College program as a hands-on learning experience geared to kids. The classes, conducted at a junior college, are intended for younger kids, ages 6 to 10, and teaches things relating to the mechanics and operations of model railroads.

The Antique Automobile Club of America, Inc. has a very active Junior segment with an educational program and special activities at both national and local events. There is also a section on the Junior AACA on the website.
AFMS Future Rockhounds of America Clubs

The American Federation of Mineralogical Societies (AFMS) has over 20 affiliated clubs specifically for young people. Check out their "Kids Corner" section of the AFMS website.
U.S. Mexican Numismatic Association

One of the stated purposes of this association is "to encourage youth, both within Mexico, and the United States to pursue the study of Mexican Numismatics. There is a youth committee, a special youth program and an annual youth scholarship to the ANA seminar.
West Virginia Marble Collectors Club

A relatively new collecting club, organized on March 30, 2003, one of their priorities is offering activities for kids. The website has a whole section called Kidz Klub showing activity pictures of their youngest club members.
