What Makes Our Convention "Special"

From the NAC/ACC Collecting Clubs eNews electronic newsletter archives.

In most issues of the Collecting Clubs eNews you see announcements or articles relating to the annual conventions of various collecting clubs and societies. In most cases, these events are the largest, most significant activity of the annual club calendar. They take much planning and demand significant membership participation in order to be successful. Some are held in the same location each year; others move around the country, sometimes around the world! All of them are looking for ways to make their convention even better. The new Association of Collecting Clubs (ACC) has targeted club conventions as a major area for assisting clubs. If your club has a convention, please have the convention chairman contact the ACC at: info@collectors.org to become a part of this project.

We urge club leadership to read the various articles about other club's conventions in Collecting Clubs eNews You may have no interest whatsoever in collecting the area that the convention centers around...and probably not in attending the convention...but you will find that in reading these articles, you will pick up ideas that may apply to your convention.

Although a lot of conventions have "sameness" like buy-sell sessions, auctions, show and tell, seminars, tours, banquets, awards and member recognition. But we do note a lot of little "twists" that are incorporated that makes that club's convention unique, or maybe almost unique. What can you share about your club's convention that makes it special...different from the rest? We would like to hear about it and share it with our readers. E-mail: info@collectors.org 200204
